In addition to the $1,400 stimulus payments, the latest round of Covid-19 relief funding increases child credits. These credits are now available to many more families - even when parents have been unable to work.
What can this mean for CT families? Consider these examples:
- A single mom with a toddler earning $10,000 a year providing in-home care to older people had previously received a Child Tax Credit of $1,125. Under the new program, she will receive $3,600, a gain of $2,475.
- A married couple earning $20,000 where one parent works and the other cares for their 3-year-old twins and 7-year-old daughter will receive $10,200.
- A single mom with a 4-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son, was out of work for two years due to a health condition and received no child credit in the past. Now, she will receive $6,600.
